Posted .

The hustle and bustle of the holidays are in full swing, and there is so much to do. Amidst this busy social time, it is tempting to neglect your smile while feasting on sugary treats. So we have a few reminders to help you enjoy this time while protecting your oral assets.

1-Don’t neglect your daily oral hygiene routine. The American Dental Association counsels people to brush twice a day for two minutes, every day. You can boost your oral hygiene by using products with the ADA seal, such as a soft-bristled toothbrush to protect the gums and a fluoride toothpaste to protect the teeth.

2-What are you eating? This time of year, tables are laden with treats, and people are gifting pies, candies, and cookies for the holidays. We recommend limiting these and snacking instead on crunchy raw vegetables, like carrots and celery. Your smile will thank you!

3-Drink water. Hydration is key to a healthy saliva levels. You may be rushing around and tempted to drink sugary beverages, but drinking water, especially tap water with fluoride will give teeth the boost they need.

4-Keep your smile safe from harm. Do you engage in high impact sports during the winter? Give your smile the gift of protection by wearing a mouth guard.

5-End-of-year cleaning and exam. Do you have a dental cleaning on the books to maximize your dental insurance benefits? Be sure to take the time to go. Cleanings and exams help prevent tooth decay and gum disease. And who couldn’t use a cleaner, brighter smile with fresher breath during this social season?
