Vivera® Retainer FAQs
Why do I need retainers?
It is important to lock in your smile! Vivera Retainers prevent the teeth from gradually shifting back toward their original position after braces, Invisalign, or other clear aligner treatments. Retainers help to protect the investment that you have made on your teeth.
How many retainers do I receive?
Vivera Retainers are a great value choice! You will receive four sets of retainers per order.
How do I get started with Vivera® Retainers?
Schedule a free consultation at our Great Falls or Ashburn office locations. At your consultation, we will take a 3D digital scan of your teeth with an iTero® scanner to fit you for the retainers. If your teeth were treated with Invisalign aligners, we may be able to use your last scan.
What is the difference between Invisalign® and Vivera® Retainers?
Invisalign® clear aligners and Vivera® Retainers are both made by Align Technology, but they serve very different purposes. Invisalign® aligners are an orthodontic treatment of custom trays that gradually shift your teeth into the desired position over time. Vivera® Retainers, on the other hand, are worn after your treatment is complete. Their job is to hold your teeth in place and prevent them from drifting back toward their original position.
How long do I need to wear my Vivera® Retainers?
Every patient is different, but in most cases, we recommend wearing your retainers full-time for the first few months after completing treatment, then transitioning to nights only.
How do I care for my Vivera® Retainers?
Keeping your Vivera® Retainers clean is simple. Rinse them with lukewarm water each time you remove them, and gently brush them with a soft toothbrush without toothpaste, as it can be abrasive and cause scratches. You can also use Invisalign® cleaning crystals or a mild retainer cleaning solution for a deeper clean.
