Can Teeth Gap or Spread After Age 40?

Posted .

Here at Costa Family & Cosmetic Dentistry, we often see patients who are over 40 and concerned about their teeth. They may notice their teeth to gap or spread and feel self-conscious about their smile.

If you can relate to this, know that you are not alone and changes in the teeth are normal with age. The good news is that you can do several things to prevent teeth gapping or spreading and keep your smile healthy and beautiful.

In the event you have completed wearing traditional metal braces or Invisalign, wear a retainer. Your teeth will always want to move back into their original positions so wearing a retainer is essential. You should also make good oral hygiene a priority and brush your teeth thoroughly at least twice a day.

If you get stressed often and tend to clench or grind your teeth at night, it may be a good idea to get fitted for a nightguard. Also, if you have restorations such as veneers, crowns, or dental fillings, ensure your dentist checks them on a regular basis. Not all of these restorative treatments last a lifetime.

Although aging teeth can be frustrating, our team of highly trained and experienced dentists are here to help. We are committing to pointing out teeth related issues before they begin and helping you find solutions to any teeth gapping or spreading you may be experiencing.
