Dental care is an expense that can be difficult for people to afford, especially those without adequate insurance. It’s so important that patients see a dentist and hygienist regularly to avoid worse consequences down the road. Costa Dentistry held its annual free dental clinic, Costa Cares Day, in Ashburn, Virginia on September 21st, 2024, which served nearly 200 community members in need.
Costa Dentistry and Partners Provide Free Dental Care to Virginians
“One of our core values of our company is to give back,” Dr. Shane Costa told ABC7 (WJLA) news during their live broadcast the morning of the event. “This is an opportunity for us to help those in the community and make an impact for those who simply cannot afford to go see the dentist.”
Nearly sixty volunteers, including doctors, assistants, oral surgeons, and team members from Costa Dentistry, Northern Virginia Orthodontics, Virginia Advanced Surgical Arts, and a wink and a smile, as well as community members, showed up to make this remarkable day of service possible.
The first patient lined up at 4 a.m. for the much anticipated annual event, which began at 8 a.m. By mid-morning, patients flowed from registration, to a personal triage with a doctor, and finally to specific rooms to await cleanings, fillings, extractions, and other care.
Dr. Costa told ABC7 that the patients “generally range from someone who just wants to have a cleaning… or cavity that needs to be taken care of, to wisdom teeth that need to be taken out, or a broken tooth that we need to have extracted… anything the patients need, we’re here for.”
“Some of the patients come in for a cleaning and they notice they need more work, so they will get back in line and get some of their other issues addressed,” Costa added.
The team at Costa Dentistry deeply values the support shown during Costa Cares Day and is eager to host this event again next year.
