How long does teeth whitening take?

Our in-office teeth whitening treatment can be completed in a single visit! Most whitening treatments take about an hour, but this time may vary depending on the appearance you wish to achieve. Our dentists will evaluate your teeth and discuss the shade of white you wish to achieve to determine the appropriate length of treatment.

Will teeth whitening hurt?

Our office uses a whitening system that not only brightens your teeth quickly, but also works to significantly reduce sensitivity following your treatment. We want to make your experience as comfortable as possible. If you do experience sensitivity it should subside shortly, but you can use over-the-counter pain relievers as needed.

Why should I have professional teeth whitening?

Professional teeth whitening will always be faster, safer and more effective than over-the-counter whitening products. In-office whitening treatments can dramatically improve your smile in as little as one hour, and while take-home whitening may take a little longer, the results will be equally beautiful. Whitening products purchased at your local supermarket may take weeks to have any effect and could damage your teeth.

What causes discoloration and staining on my teeth?

How long do my results last?

The results from your whitening treatment can last from six months to one year after the treatment is completed. You can keep your teeth white by practicing good oral hygiene and avoiding foods and drink that stain. In order to keep your smile bright, you will periodically need to touch it up with further whitening treatments.

Am I at risk for oral cancer?

Anyone can develop oral cancer. However, people who smoke or use other tobacco products and people who drink heavily are at greater risk of developing this disease.

What happens if I’m diagnosed with oral cancer?

If we find any signs of oral cancer, we will recommend a follow-up visit in two weeks to see if the diseased area is still present or has changed over time. We may recommend an oral biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. If you are diagnosed, we will be here for you! Costa Dentistry works with you and specialists to help you get the treatment you need.

How often should I have an oral cancer screening?

You should receive an oral cancer screening at least once a year. Our dentists and team provide these screenings during your regular exams.
