What You Can Receive

Each eligible patient may choose one of the following:

• One basic dental cleaning
• One filling
• One extraction

After receiving your first service, you are welcome to get back in line for an additional service. Many patients did exactly that at our last event. “Some of the patients come in for a cleaning, and they notice they need more work, so they will get back in line and get some of their other issues addressed,” said Dr. Shane Costa. Services are subject to availability.

What to Expect on the Day

When you arrive, you’ll check in at registration and then meet one-on-one with a doctor for a personal triage to talk through what you need. From there you’ll be directed to a treatment room for your care.

Our doors open at 8:00 AM and our team sees as many patients as we can until 3:00 PM. Arriving early makes a real difference — at our 2024 event, the first patient was in line by 4:00 AM. Plan for a wait: a folding chair, water, a snack, and a phone charger will make the morning a lot more comfortable.

You do not need to bring a photo ID, insurance card, or any form of payment. Just bring yourself.

About Costa Cares Day

“One of our core values of our company is to give back,” Dr. Shane Costa told ABC7 (WJLA) news during their live broadcast the morning of our 2024 event. “This is an opportunity for us to help those in the community and make an impact for those who simply cannot afford to go see the dentist.”

Dental care is an expense that can be difficult to afford, especially for people without adequate insurance — and putting off a visit often means a smaller problem becomes a much bigger one. Costa Cares Day exists to remove that barrier for one day a year, for anyone in our community who needs it.

At our 2024 event, nearly 200 community members received free care. It took nearly sixty volunteers to make that possible: doctors, assistants, oral surgeons, and team members from Costa Dentistry, Northern Virginia Orthodontics, Virginia Advanced Surgical Arts, and a wink and a smile, along with community members who gave up their Saturday to help.

The people who come through our doors need all kinds of care. “They generally range from someone who just wants to have a cleaning… or cavity that needs to be taken care of, to wisdom teeth that need to be taken out, or a broken tooth that we need to have extracted,” Dr. Costa said. “Anything the patients need, we’re here for.”
